This course will cover the following areas:
The ‘Principles of Surgical Suturing’
Knot tying including the One-Handed Reef Knot & Surgeons Knot
Safe and economic Instrument Handling technique
The Instrument Tie and Interrupted Suturing, Mattress Suturing, Continuous Suturing, Subcuticular Suturing and the Aberdeen Knot
Skin incision closure will be practised on Animal Tissue.
Dress code is smart casual.
Lunch will not be provided at the event.
All delegates will receive a certificate for their portfolio.

This course is open to all clinical medical students (MBBS or BDS Years 3-5). Any preclinical students (MBBS or BDS years 1-2) should attend the ‘Introduction to Suturing Skills’ course which will run later in 2015.

Introduction to Suturing Skills
Thursday 30th October.

Location: Room G9, New Hunt’s House (NHH), Guy’s Campus
Ticket price: £5 for members, £8 for non-members
In the session you will watch a short video on how to perform simple suturing techniques. You will then practice these skills under the guidance of demonstrators.
There will be a competition at end of the event with a prize awarded to the winner
